SUMMARY:Tiki Drink Talk at Art of the Aloha Shirt Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a lively evening with a fast-paced gallery tour\, Tiki cocktail talk\, and presentation from a local vintage Aloha shirt collector\, plus refreshments! \nDr. Linda A. Bradley\, Professor Emeritus at Washington State University\, will lead a fun gallery tour of our newest exhibit Art of the Aloha Shirt. She’ll share an overview of the roots of aloha attire and provide insight into the broader cultural and historical significance of this style. Dr. Bradley conducts research into textiles and clothing as material culture and examines the social\, cultural\, historic\, and psychological aspects of dress. \nLocal collector David Bader will share examples of aloha shirts from his extensive collection\, while providing participants with a deeper understanding of how the style has changed over time. \nAnd learn all about “The Origins of Tiki: The Drinks Behind the Shirts\,” with cocktail historian Renée Cebula. The history of tiki cocktails is a global story involving the Caribbean and Los Angeles more than Tahiti and Honolulu. Like the popularity of the aloha shirt\, tourism also ushered in changes in what people drank on the islands. \nEnjoy a tropical mocktail while you take in the stories and history! \nsource: https://www.washingtonhistory.org/event/aloha/ \nThis event is FREE.

SUMMARY:Camp Cocktail: The Drinks of New Orleans
DESCRIPTION:Simon and Renée felt that camp shouldn’t be just for kids\, so we created a series of classes: Camp Cocktail. Each “camp” is about the history and stories of three great American cities. Our inspiration came from Tennessee Williams\, who famously wrote\, “There are only three great cities in the U.S.: New York\, San Francisco\, and New Orleans. All the rest are Cleveland.” We don’t know whether Williams had any cocktails in mind\, but many\, no numerous classic cocktails came to mind for a mixologist and a historian. \nEvery camp has activities\, and ours are stirring and shaking classic cocktails while learning the stories behind the drinks. New Orleans is the heart of American cocktail culture. The drinks created in NOLA are the foundation for the classics of the Golden Age of the Cocktail. Develop your palate and learn the mixologist’s techniques for making these drinks from the Big Easy. Feast on appetizers\, and take home your camp recipe booklet to continue your cocktail adventures at home. \nThis interactive cocktail class combines history and mixology. Hogwash master mixologist Simon Moorby walks guests step-by-step through the making of 3 drinks. Cocktail historian\, Renée Cebula of Raising the Bar\, tells the stories of how these drinks represent the history of New Orleans. \nClass set-up includes bartending stations with all the necessary tools\, fresh-made and prepped ingredients\, and vintage glassware. Shake\, swirl\, and sip in style as you hear the stories\, learn the techniques\, and enjoy the drinks. \nTickets are $65 per person. Your ticket includes three crafted drinks\, mixology and history lessons\, appetizers\, and a souvenir camp booklet. \nMust be 21 and over. Each class is limited to 30 guests. \nIf you have questions\, please email Renée at owner@raisingthebarnw.com. \nFind us on Instagram: Raising the Bar \nCheck us out on Facebook: Hogwash Whiskey Den
