DESCRIPTION:The first Camp Cocktail class is about the iconic drinks from New York. Learn\, create\, and taste around three story-worthy cocktails. \nSimon and Renée felt that camp shouldn’t be just for kids\, so we created a series of classes: Camp Cocktail. Each “camp” is about the history and stories of three great American cities. Our inspiration came from Tennessee Williams\, who famously wrote\, “There are only three great cities in the U.S.: New York\, San Francisco\, and New Orleans. All the rest are Cleveland.” We don’t know whether Williams had any cocktails in mind\, but many\, no numerous classic cocktails came to mind for a mixologist and a historian. We begin this summer series with New York! \nEvery camp has activities\, and ours are stirring and shaking classic cocktails. In the late 1800s\, New York City was at the center of America’s Golden Age of the Cocktail. June’s class explores (think: make and taste) those drinks invented and made famous in New York. Develop your palate and learn the mixologist’s techniques. Feast on appetizers\, and take home your camp recipe booklet to continue your cocktail adventures at home.  \nThis interactive cocktail class combines history and mixology. DESCRIPTION:At the height of America’s Golden Age of Cocktails\, Prohibition shuttered the doors of drinking establishments. That golden age had fueled the rise of a cadre of professional bartenders. What happens when your career abruptly ends? Thousands of bartenders went abroad to continue their profession. They continued to stir and shake\, but more importantly\, to preserve and expand American cocktail culture creating new classics that\, today\, are part of America’s cocktail canon. Let’s learn the stories and taste these drinks!  \nWe had so much fun at last year’s Camp Cocktail that we had to make it a tradition. Continuing the theme of great cocktail cities\, we decided this year’s theme would be the history and stories of three great cocktail cities during Prohibition. The final Camp Cocktail is about the story-worthy cocktails invented in Havana.  \nJoin us for this hands-on interactive class on Sunday\, August 6th\, at 5 pm (our summer classes start later). Then Hogwash Whiskey Den’s master mixologist\, Simon\, will guide you through 2 additional cocktails inspired by the movie. DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to collaborate with Commellini Estate in north Spokane. \nCome join Renée Cebula\, from Raising the Bar\, and learn how to make “Cocktails with Love”. Renée is a historian. A history educator for 20-plus years\, she researches American drinking history. Her company\, Raising the Bar\, is about advancing knowledge and inspiring curiosity around cocktail culture’s history\, roots\, and stories. Renée’s passion is connecting people to history through interactive cocktail-themed classes\, writing\, hands-on bitters kits\, and unique shopping experiences. She has taught over a hundred classes and has been a featured speaker for the Washington State Historical Museum\, McMenamins History Pubs\, and other organizations. \nOn the Menu: \n-Focaccia Bread \n-Commellini Caesar Salad \n-Pasta Bar Buffet: Featuring three of the Commellini Estate Historical Sauces including our Spaghetti with Gina’s Vegetable Marinara\, Fettuccine & Albert’s White Wine Alfredo\, and Rigatoni & Leda’s Meat Sauce. \nEach participant will learn how to make 3 classic cocktails and get an in depth history about each cocktail. You will learn all the techniques you need to know for making delicious classics like the “Philadelphia Fish House Punch”\, the “All-Spice Whiskey Sour”\, and the “Everything Nice Old Fashioned”.
